Brew review

Had a chance to sample a newcomer to my vault of pumpkin brews this season.
Lakefront Brewery, from my original home town Milwaukee, Wi.
is offering up a lager made with pumpkin and spices. Had to rate this one
about a 4 out of 5. Very impressed with the amount of flavoring. Not overpowering
and very clean and refreshing. I like my pumpkin beer a bit heavier and cloudy,
but I would have to recommend this brew to any in search of
a good fall beer.

  1. I might have to try this. I don't think I've had a pumpkin flavored beer before. Is it similar to hard cider in sweetness?

    1. No its not. It pretty much is a Lager beer with a bit of pumpkin flavor so there really is no sweetness at all, so if you don't like beer then you probably wouldn't care much for it. I'm a big fan of the Angry Orchard cider myself, but they are completely different.
I guess its whatever mood hits me at the time.

  2. I might try one more but I have been unimpressed with Pumpkin beers. Have never tasted anything that resembled pumpkin. Maybe I am expecting it to be too much like a cider as well.

    1. I hear ya Mark. I have tried many and some don'y taste like pumpkin at all, just a few spices. I find that the Ales are a bit harder to pull off since they are "hoppy" to begin with. I've had much better luck with the Lager styles, that way the pumpkin flavor is not completely lost. As I mentioned, I would prefer something heavier like a wiess style pumpkin beer, but I have not found anything like that yet.

  3. I'm with Mark on this! I keep searching for the perfect pumpkin brew, but thus far, I've been sorely disappointed! Nothing that I've tried has tasted like pumpkin at all.
I'm still hoping to find the Pumpkin Woodchuck Hard Cider that PumpkinRot had written about a few years ago.
Keep us posted in your quest to find a delicious pumpkin drink!

    1. I agree Countess. The market seems to become flooded with cool packaging for the season, but not a lot behind the curtain. Buffalo Bills Pumpkin Ale I found to be pretty good, but it is "batchy". I found some great and others lacking. Don't know if it sat in a warehouse too long or if it is the brewing process. Seems to be a gamble. Have not seen nor tried the Wood Chuck cider, but I will have to keep my eyes open for it. Have not ever seen a pumpkin cider..very cool.

    2. They do have some cool packaging and artwork on most of these beers though.
