Salem and Haunted overload

Had quite the busy weekend as we hit up Salem and Haunted Overload this last weekend. Salem always delivers and we were blessed with terrific weather. 6:00 am flights kind of whipped us out but we soldiered on and got to see everything that we wanted.

I do have to say that the highlight of this years trip was Haunted overloads night tour.
We also did the day tour just to relish in the art (and a couple were not up to the night tour Ha ha)
All I can say is WOW! If you have ever wanted to experience Halloween heaven, then this is the place.
I can not even discribe the feeling and atmosphere of this beautiful haunt. The actors, sound and lighting are all top notch and I really don't see anything in the future topping this event.
If it was ever on your mind that you might attend at some point, make it happen!

Universal's Halloween Horror Nights 2022

Finally ticked off another bucket list item.

Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights.

My first visit, and from what I have heard, one of the best years. It would have to be since it is the "31st" run of the event. It was a hell of a lot of walking but worth it. We were lucky enough to have a season pass so we could get in the park early and stay in what they call the stay and scream holding area which let us in early so we could knock out about 3 of the 10 haunted houses before it opened to the public at the main gate. Definitely worth it. We did a ton of research and learned some excellent tips from other bloggers and Utube videos that without we would not have been able to see and enjoy everything like we did. We went for 2 nights and were able to complete all 10 houses and 5 scare zones, as well as the live shows. The houses were obviously well done and a blast to go through ranging in themes from Michael Myers Halloween to Universal monsters- probably my 2 favorites.

You are not allowed to take pictures in the houses so I can't show any of those but I did get some of the scare zones. With the weather being close to 100 degrees and high humidity, it did not feel a lot like fall but it was still a very creepy and fun event to attend. Rain was threatening both nights but we lucked out and stayed dry.

So all in all, it was a great start to the Halloween season.
A bit exhausting and a 6:00 am return flight took its toll but definitely worth it.
Now it's on to Salem and Haunted Overload next month!

Heading out to Universals Halloween Horror nights this weekend!

First time attending this event. Looks to be a lot of fun. If anyone has any tips or advice, it would be much appreciated. So good to get the fall season events going!

Early Harvest

This years pumpkin crop flourished in its new spot.

In an unprecedented year they were ready for picking in mid August instead of September.

I have already picked 11 and there are still another eight in the back still on the vine.

I was pleased to see the variety of shapes and sizes this year ( all planted with seeds from the same pumpkin)

Time to start giving them away and spread some Autumn vibes and cheer!

Too many pumpkins?

Here is the Deadwood Cemetery pumpkin patch update for 2022. Decided to plant them off to the side this year and use the planting box for other things like jalapenos, bananna peppers and tomato.

As you can see the pumpkins are doing quite well in their new area- in fact maybe too well.

I did try to thin them after sprouting, leaving only about 6 vines thinking that they would have enough room. You would think after all these years I would know better. It is fun watching them run wild and just let them do their thing. Already have about 6 pumpkins of various shapes and sizes so I think this year will probably be a bumper crop. I think in the fall I will have to do some trips into the cattails to find the rouge ones!

New prop build

Ok, so I had this really cool tiki torch I bought at Menards probably 15 years ago, had an awesome pumpkin head on top.  Never saw them again

Well the canister for the torch fluid finally fell apart and since it was a special size could not be replaced.

So I wondered what I could do with the pumpkin head since it had a big hole in the top for the torch when I realized I had a 36" skeleton that was in the trunks in the basement. And wouldn't you know the head fit perfectly. I had to build up the top where the hole was and put a stem on it for the finishing touch.

I call him the Trick or treater.

I saw on the Highbury Cemetery blog how he made a cool trick or treater prop and thus came the inspiration, so thank you for that.

Just a little Halloween fun during a cold January
